Mujaki no Squirt Treat 47
And this is this final chapter of the seventh volume, stay tooned for the eighth. Also, just to warn you, this chapter needed a lot of the dreaded Script Writing in order to have the misunderstandings make (hopefully) some kind of sense and (hopefully) be at least halfway funny.
For example, if I were to translate Manatsu’s line here literally, she would actually be saying, “At first I thought ‘shouldn’t carrots be red’?” But since she
is from the American South speaks in the Kansai dialect she says aka chaun, which as you all know starts with the Japanese word for “red,” then is followed the Kansai form of the word chigau (“wrong”) which is then punctuated by the abbreviated form of the no copula. However, that phrase sounds a whole lot like the word akachan, which means “baby.” And of course, Mutsuki misheard ninjin (“carrot”) for ninshin (“pregnant”).
Now, imagine us trying to fit in all that information in a translation note within the brackets? Yeah, not gonna work. So the line was rewritten so we don’t have to first write a line that makes no sense, then insert a translation note that removes all doubt we misread a word and mistranslated the line.
